OR, if you already have anti-virus software for your computer then just tell it to also scan your flash drive.

Also if you want you can encrypt your whole flash drive using truecrypt. Just make sure when your making a new volume, that it takes up all your jump drive space so no viruses can get on to it, and then when you mount the truecrypt volume its just like a flash drive.

Scan anything you put on it.

There are plenty of free virus scan programs available - try AVG.
Only use it on machines with known anti virus installed.

If you don't have it on your PC, try avast that is free, www.avast.com

If you are not usre of protection installed on another machine, DO NOT use your flash drive there, or if you do, manually san it on return home
Scan anything you put on it with a virus scanner.

Just scan the drive every now and then, and you should be ok
I don't think you have anything to worry about personally, because I have been using the same flash drive for about four years now and never had a problem. And I wouldn't even waste my time on virus protection with it.
