Why do people make destrucktive computer viruses?

If they are soo smart why not make good use of that gift. Instead they hide viruses that that time to get rid of.

Because it is kind of romantic to cause destruction and watch it unfold? I'm not sure.

But just remember this - before you insult virus authors, remember that they are doing you a huge favor. They have forced companies and the government to ramp up the security of computing, and engineer security into their infrastructure (which they would not have done otherwise). Now consider if no viruses had ever been written. We would be completely vulnerable to a terrorist attack in this fashion.

Don't complain about the people who are making it possible for you to sit in front of your computer like you are doing right now, and feel safe from anything other than a minor annoyance.

to keep people like you off the system :P

jk jk lol
because they just want your money and don't care what happens to your computer.
Thats what happens when you go 30-40 years without getting laid.. you take it out on society by making computer viruses. Get a life you loosers.
Because they are pathetic and hope to have their 15 minutes.
It's a control thing.....
it gives the programmer a sense of power knowing that the can effect potentially millions of people and they cant do anything about. what is the saying ''power corrupts'' and is also entertaining to them.
Cause they are sick and have nothing better else to do with their time.
Greed, arrogance, insecurity with themselves. I bet that there are some instances where they are the equivalent of mercenaries, they get paid from someone or some rogue gov't to create a malicious payload to effect the end user.
They want to challenge me to find them and put a .44 magnum bullet in thier head.
You make the mistake of thinking that you need to be intelligent to write a virus. Except for some truly original ones, you don't! Any decent programmer can write a virus in an hour or so; additionally stock viral code is available at hacker sites.
