If you retrace back to GCSE level: the main characteristics of living things are, movement, respiration, sensitivity (to environment), growth, reproduction, excretion and nutrition.

Virus' however do not show any characteristics of living things. they are not -self-motile, they do not respire, they do not 'grow'. They don't reproduce.

A Virus is in-essence a syringe with a coil (circlet) of DNA, which will recept to certain cells and then 'inject' its own DNA, taking over the host cell.

Virus' do not perform Mitosis/Meiosis and so cannot reproduce sexually or A-Sexually and therefore are not technically living.

You mean characteristics of viruses that meet the definition of life? They reproduce is the main answer. There are others that you can probably find in your biology textbook or lecture notes.
