If i switch hard drives on a computer, will the viruses transfer?

ok, im trying to fix my brothers computer, buy he and my 2 sisters have gotten so many viruses on it that it's slow as ****. i bought an external hard drive off ebay, and a windows xp installation disk, so if i switch the hard drives, will the computer still have the same viruses? i know this solution is kinda roul goldberg, but i have ADD and it makes perfect sence.

you need an internal hard drive, then replace the infected drive with the new one and install windows.

Yes it will if the harddisk you are puttin into it had the viruses alredy, and if there slow as ____ why dont you just get an anti virus program on there install a free one like Kaspersky internet security and get rid of viruses before u switch harddisks and u wont have that problem :)
Viruses basically always stay on the hard drive. However, I'm not sure if windows can boot from an external hard rive, as the USB cable can't transfer data as fast as the one inside your computer.
no your viruses will not save onto your new hard drive. just dont transfer any files from your old hard drive to your new one.
If you already have the xp installation disk, just format and reinstall the whole thing and be done with it.
no viruses can not get on the external hard drive unless you put a file on the hard drive that has a virus
